Sony has announced a newly developed IR cut filter to improve colour reproduction when using the BURANO digital cinema camera under strong lighting conditions, including sunlight.
The filter replacement will be provided at no charge for parts and labor. This replacement service is open through May 31, 2026, and will be carried out on a first come, first served basis. BURANO owners can schedule the filter replacement by contacting their regional Sony service centre.
Sony is also pleased to announce the availability as of June 3rd, 2025 of Version 2.0 of the BURANO firmware which includes new recording formats such as a new 3.8K full Frame crop that can shoot up to 120fps, a S35c 1.9K mode than can shoot up to 240fps and a Super35 4:3 mode. Other improvements include the new 1.8x De-squeeze setting and additional high frame rates (S&Q). The new firmware will also add proxy recording for 24.00 fps recording and monitoring improvements.
Any BURANO owner who wishes to replace the infrared cut filter to improve colour reproduction under strong lighting conditions are eligible for this filter replacement.
BURANO units with a protrusion on the upper part of the front optical filter component already have the new IR Cut filter and no further filter replacement is required at this time.
Sony will continue to improve the shooting experience of Cinema Line users in professional video production environments through firmware and other updates, providing Creators with sustainable shooting tools.
